Harper & Pearson, Chooses Helping Others Over Annual Holiday Party
Houston –December 18, 2009 –In the spirit of the holidays, Harper & Pearson, recently made the decision to forgo the Firm’s annual holiday party in favor of donating to several local charities. Harper & Pearson Company chose five non-profit agencies to send donations, which included Child Advocates, Inc., Sheltering Arms Senior Services, United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Houston, The Salvation Army and the Star of Hope Mission.
The staff of Harper & Pearson Company shopped, wrapped and delivered the gifts just in time for Christmas. “Our employees were very excited to be involved in this project,” said Joe Richardson, CEO for Harper & Pearson
Child Advocates, Inc., a client of Harper & Pearson Company, mobilizes court appointed volunteers to break the vicious cycle of child abuse. The organization represents abused children who are lost in the system and guides them into safe environments where they can thrive. The Firm purchased gifts from the wish lists of two families, hoping to make the holidays brighter for these Houston area children.
Sheltering Arms Senior Services’ mission promotes the dignity and independence of older adults through service, advocacy and support for caregivers. Harper & Pearson Company supplied ten seniors with “gift baskets,” which included essential items such as food, household goods, clothing and personal items. In addition, a decorated Christmas tree was delivered to each sponsored senior to enjoy.
United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Houston, also a client of Harper & Pearson Company, is dedicated to advancing the independence, productivity and full citizenship of people with disabilities through an affiliate network. The Firm purchased several items from the wish list for a family of ten that includes eight children.
The Salvation Army ministers to and meets the needs of the poor, the destitute, the homeless and the hungry. During the holidays, The Salvation Army provides assistance (toys and gifts) to 30,000 children and seniors. Harper & Pearson Company donated funds to the organization, helping those who are truly in need during the holiday season.
A cash donation was also made to the Star of Hope Mission, also a client of Harper & Pearson Company. The Star of Hope Mission is dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless men, women and their children in the Houston area. In 2009 alone, the Star of Hope assisted more than 5,500 homeless individuals, two-thirds of them being women and families.
